Bylaws

 

 

I. Name and Purpose

 

The name of this organization shall be the Oklahoma Health Sciences Library Association. It shall have as its purpose to provide its members the opportunity to help one another to continuously improve and keep abreast of changes that will give more efficient and meaningful medical library service to doctors, students and paramedical personnel.

 

II. Membership

 

The active membership shall be health sciences library personnel within the State of Oklahoma. Associate membership shall be open to all who are interested in health sciences information and its issues. Each active member will have voting privileges about the Association.

 

III. Dues

 

Dues for the current calendar year shall be payable at the spring meeting.

 

IV. Officers and Executive Board

 

Section 1. The officers shall be the President, President-Elect, and Secretary-Treasurer. The term of office for the first two officers will be one calendar year (January through December). The term of office for the Secretary-Treasurer will be for two years.

 

Section 2. In the event of the resignation, incapacitation, of any of the officers, the remaining officers may select a replacement until the next election.

 

Section 3. The Executive Board shall "be composed of three officers; namely, the President, President-Elect, and Secretary-Treasurer.

 

V. Nominations and Elections

 

Section 1. A Nominating Committee shall be appointed by the President for each election.

 

Section 2. Nomination for an officer shall be as follows:

The nominating committee shall survey the active membership for suggestions of nominees. The nominating committee shall prepare a slate of officers, all of whom must be voting members of the Association. Consent must be received from each nominee, and in no case shall a member be nominated or elected without the member's consent.

 

Section 3. Ballots shall be distributed to each active member of the Association before the fall meeting each year. A simple majority of votes on ballots returned shall constitute an election.

 

VI. Committees

 

Standing and special committees of the Association shall be established by the President. These committees shall be responsible to the president.

 

VII. Amendments

 

Section 1. These By-laws may be amended by a majority vote of those present and voting at any annual meeting.

 

Section 2. Notice containing the text of any amendment shall be sent to each voting member at least thirty days before the next annual meeting at which it is to be discussed.

 

VIII. Quorum

 

One-third of the active membership shall constitute a quorum at any meeting. A simple majority of those present shall constitute a majority. A simple majority will constitute a quorum of all committees.
